The King's Treasury - Delays Explained/Release Info Included

I've decided to take a break from coding to do something a little more interesting, and do the write up for the event a little earlier than I said I would. I will also be able to clear up the confusion, and explain the delays. Obviously we had initially planned for an Easter event, but we encountered some troubles close to launch and we decided it would be better to postpone the event, and ensure we could provide the best experience possible.

With this in mind, my brain went in to overdrive for the extra things we could add to this event, to keep it special and unique -  while bringing back as many of the elements you guys loved from previous events as possible! To be able to achieve this kind of event meant we needed a better server, one that could enable our NPCs and scripts to do much more! I will create another post either later this evening or early tomorrow, outlining the various changes made to the game engine. This has a little wow factor for everyone, even if you don't unde...

Game Client & Server Update V0.3.43

As promised, here is the next version of the Game Client & Server V0.3.43. This version is again mostly to fix/tweak issues but we've got some new functionality in play which I think will to the benefit of all of our players!

Here is the list of changes:

 - The Options Menu has been reworked. Players now have Privacy Settings, and this means you have much more control over who can send you requests and/or invites. You can select either On, Friends or Off options and separately for Battle/Trade/Party. You can now also drag the mouse with the volume adjustment scrolls for easier fine tuning.

 - Right clicking the map area will now cancel the move queue generated from mouse movement.

 - Route 17 and 18 now have music

 - /PartyList text based command, will now display a list of all active players in your Party Tab

Fixes:

 - Pokemon Definitions Database Updated, this is for reported level and egg move set issues.
 - No longer able to PM yourself using text commands.
 - TCP_HandleFish() E...

Further Delays

Well, depending on how you see it this is both good and bad! I know you all want the Easter Event to have come already, we do too, but we've met a few obstacles along the way and it's put us out of whack. With this being said, the delays have allowed for us to make use of some new features of the scripting engine to bring this event on to the podium as our best event so far! We have decided to remove the overall Easter theme of the event, due to the delays and hopefully bring forward something darker with some subtle clues for the future.

This event will bring forward additional ways to obtain items, some of which aren't normally readily available. We've also incorporated some specialised EV training and a mystery bonus room, more on that when we release ;)

So not only did this mean we've had time to improve the event, we've also had some additional time to improve the game too. Thanks to IcyFury and his recent efforts towards our GUI we can provide an upgraded Options Menu, which a...

Game Client & Server Update V0.3.42

For this update we've managed to have some time to come back to the Party System, and make it much more user friendly to hopefully get more of you using it, as we've seen quite a few failed attempts with the text commands :P With this, we've also increased the maximum player limit for parties from 16 users, to 32 and have hopefully also removed some of the issues reported in the system. We have IcyFury to thank for the awesome new look! The main Party Interface can be found from clicking the new P icon in the top left corner of the game window

In other news, players have now have the ability to changes their sprites. We don't have any new ones at this time, but you're able to select from the 10 choices available on the registration menu. This service will cost $50,000 pokedollars and we'll leave you guys to explore for yourselves and find the Taylor's house :) Kuru brought together the scripts and LayLay the map, which we will hopefully be able to add further sprites to over time.

Time To Party? V0.3.41

So yesterdays update laid down quite a few fixes, with a couple of smaller patches appied to the server over the past 24 hours to help rectify any new issues which were created.

Today we present the Party tab :)

This tab is basically a custom chat channel, where you and up to 15 others can have a private group conversation. Currently we don't have the graphical interfaces for this, so I've developed text commands which you can all find by using the /PartyHelp command. We will be creating a more user friendly version as soon as possible, we just need to get the early kinks out of the system first.

Please report all issues with this new system as soon as possible, so that we can try and perfect it before we upgrade the system again.

The Developers Ramblings

Ok, so with the last minor update I did announce that I would be taking a personal break from the project. This should last for about 2 to 4 weeks, although I will be checking up on my messages from time to time and answering the odd forum post if I have a minute available. I've decided the best thing to do is to outline the expected changes for the coming months, as updates during this time will likely be few and far between because there are some fairly large tasks at hand. Please remember that nothing in this topic is currently in development and game staff will not be able to answer any of your questions regarding the points listed here.

The very big key areas of focus for the next 6 months will be the following:

 - New Game Client
 - Major Battle Engine Upgrade (including support for almost all moves)
 - Battle High Scores, this will be the first completed.
 - Server Automated PvP Tournaments
 - Guilds
 - Major New Content
 + Various smaller tweaks/fixes/upgrades

Each of these ...

PDoD V0.3.25 Development Blog

So I've decided to take the time to write up another Development Blog for this update, as I won't be likely to update the game for a couple of weeks. I had previously planned to release this next weekend, but I am going to set the release date for this update to be the 25th November as I'm currently not able to achieve the work rate I'm used to - I'm having a hard time of concentrating at the moment due to my insomnia giving me a real kick in lol.

With that being said I'm going to keep a loose list of what's going on behind the scenes for this update, we do of course have a couple of surprises too. I would also like to make it clear that this isn't in any way like the normal size of an update which I blog about, as stated above I just can't complete at the usual pace.

Complete:

 - Fixed users being able to accidentally skip the evolution menu by spamming the space bar
 - Fixed chat tab scroll bars creating blank space at the top of each chat
 - Fixed Ignore scroll bar and also ignor...

Game Server Disconnects & Packet Manipulation Ban Problems

So I'm sure that most of our regular players are very well aware of the issues we are currently experiencing on the Game Server. I am talking about the disconnects and bans which are frustrating a large portion of you and also our staff. Unfortunately this used to only occur during peak times, but as our popularity is grown the server seems to be at peak levels constantly. I have found the cause of the error, and am already working on getting the solution up and running. The problem with this though, is that the solution requires knowledge which I don't have a firm grasp of. Which means I'm having to take the time to do a lot of research in to the problem to ensure that when I implement it properly that we still have a stable server.

The problem is caused by too many connections being handled at once by the server, and it is in need of being properly Multi-Threaded. Multi-Threading will make the server capable of holding hundreds more users at once with none of the main issues we ar...

PDoD Version 0.2.3 Development Blog

It's been a little while since I did one of these, and my personal schedule is a bit hectic at the moment so I think this update will take a little longer than usual to complete. I will not be offering a fixed time of completion for this update until it is complete. I may also decide to add or remove features from this list

Complete - Work in progress - Not Started Yet

Updated Item Drop Tables
This update comes with every single wild pokemon having it's item drop data being updated. Users will hopefully start to get drops much more frequently. We have also introduced a new game item to be found from wild drops, Rare Candy!

Updated Move Learning Handling
I have had to rework this system, initially due to the implementation of the Rare Candy item - but once I begun realised the system could be updated to work a little better. This menu will now show information abo...
